This course will examine worfklows to create highly minimalistic stylized vector drawings from a Rhino model for your design presentations using Illustrator or Affinity Designer. We will examine 2 different types of drawing styles throughout the course, including a minimal black and white lineweight style, and drawings in the style of architect Aires Mateus. We will draw site plans, floor plans and sections in this course, all straight from a Rhino model of Toyo Ito’s Tama Art University Library.

What will you learn in each video?

This lesson will examine the how to prepare 2D CAD data from a 3D model in Rhino so it is ready to export to an external vector graphics program.

In this lesson, we will explore how to transform our 3D model of the Tama Art University Library by Toyo Ito & Associates into a 2D vector drawing, and prepare our 2D data for export into Illustrator or Affinity Designer.

This lesson will explore how to take our 2D CAD data export from Rhino, and use our preset layers to stylize our lineweights and fills in minimal approach in Illustrator or Affinity Designer.

Our Rhino to Illustrator minimal plan workflow can easily be applied to section drawings. This lesson will explore how to create a 2D CAD section from our 3D model of the Tama Art University Library, and export it to Illustrator or Affinity Designer for stylization.

We can use the document structure of our plans and sections in Illustrator or Affinity Designer to create other highly stylized drawings. This lesson will seek to replicate the style of architect Aires Mateus’ plans and sections.
